Cotton Rug

The cotton rug is a great washable throw accessory for your floor area.

When choosing a new rug to add to an area of your home or office, one of the important decisions you will have to make is the material of the rug that you want to use.  There are pretty much an endless number of materials available for a floor area rug, so making this decision early will help hone in your search.   One of the best materials that you can buy a rug in is cotton.  A cotton rug is incredibly soft on your feet and has a beautiful au natural look that can add a touch of elegance to any area.

There are many advantages to choosing a cotton rug over other materials, which we will discuss.  One of the biggest advantages is the fact that you are choosing a completely natural, environmentally friendly material.  If you like to walk around the home barefoot or in your socks, then a cotton rug is an ideal area to stand or sit on.  There are few more enjoyable activities then sitting around the fireplace with your family on a cold night, and sitting on a cotton rug in this situation will only enhance the comfort.  Many people find that a member of the family may have allergies to certain materials, and one of the biggest culprits is wool.  It is very common to find a wool floor rug in people’s homes, however if you have someone who is allergic to this material, then cotton makes a great substitute.

Another amazing benefit of a cotton rug is the ease of the cleaning process.  Since these rugs are usually made of 100% cotton (or close to it), they can be washed and cleaned incredibly easily.  You should of course read the cleaning instructions for the individual cotton rug that you purchase, but in general these rugs can be placed in the washing machine like any article of clothing and dried at a low temperature (in order to prevent shrinking).  It goes without saying that you need to be careful of having the colors seep into other articles of clothing, so it may be best to wash a cotton rug as a separate load.

When it comes time to choosing the right style of cotton rug for your home, you will have plenty of variety to pick from.  You can find a cotton area rug in a multitude of colors and several shapes.  As a rule of thumb, these rugs tend to have one of a few geometric shapes; they are usually either rectangular, circular or oval shaped.  The sky is the limit with the array of colors you can choose from, however.   You can find a cotton rug in almost any color and these rugs are characteristically known to retain their bright dyes for many washes.

When choosing the right cotton rug for your home, there is no limit to the stores you can search at.  Some of the best places to look would include any store with a home furnishing or home accessories section.  Some of these prominent stores would include Target, Sears, Walmart and Bed Bath and Beyond.
